JUUL Initiative - Vaping Prevention Program and Classroom Lesson Training (Copy)

  • Eastern Suffolk BOCES Instructional Support Center @ Sequoya 750 Waverly Avenue Holtsville, New York, 11742 United States (map)

This professional learning session will provide school teams with the knowledge and tools needed to implement evidence-based vaping prevention education within their schools. Participants will be introduced to the Stanford REACH Lab's Tobacco Prevention Toolkit and learn how to use the You and Me, Together Vape-Free Curriculum, an online prevention program designed for students across grade levels. The training will explore two lessons for elementary students, five lessons for middle school students, and five lessons for high school students. Participants will learn how to navigate and use the online program, understand the content and instructional approach, and gain practical strategies for effectively delivering the lessons to students. Participants will then learn how to use the pre and post surveys, to track success of the program.

Schools are encouraged to attend as a team. In addition to learning the curriculum, teams will have dedicated time to begin developing a school-specific implementation plan. Teams will identify who will deliver the lessons, the appropriate setting and environment for implementation, the students or grade levels to be served, and a timeline for implementation.

By the end of the session, participating school teams will have a foundational understanding of the curriculum and an initial roadmap for bringing vaping prevention education to their students.

This training is provided to all Eastern Suffolk BOCES component districts as a part of our JUUL Vaping Initiative programming. This is part 1 of a 2 part series. Districts may participate in one or both parts of the series based on district needs. Part 1: Vaping Prevention Part 2: Vaping Cessation
