Creating Trauma-Sensitive School Environments

How does trauma impact the school setting? In this interactive workshop, we will build capacity of school staff members to respond to students in trauma-informed ways. This training is recommended for school-based mental health professionals (such as school counselors, social workers, and psychologists), as well as teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals. Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of trauma; including what trauma is, how it can manifest emotionally and behaviorally, and how traumatic experiences impact a students' ability to learn; practical, ready-to-use tips and strategies; a pragmatic approach to self-care for teachers; and opportunities for self-reflection, including how to utilize reflective practices to improve your effectiveness with children who have experienced trauma.
